Few individuals past or present has had the impact that Cesar Chavez did. His life is the story of not just the migrant workers or the poor, or even of Hispanics. It is the story of stuggle---the stuggle to survive; of family; of abuse; of corporate dominance; of greed; and of hatred. But most of all, it's the story of the struggle for respect, especially self-respect, and willpower to overcome life's obstacles on behalf of a People.Cesar Chavez tells the story of his life and its challenges through first person accounts, from growing up in a happy and close family which eeked out a living with their own small store and plot of land to losing it due to greed and double-dealing and essentually becoming homeless and following the hard path of the migrant worker amid corruption, racial hatred, and a hand-to-mouth existance. Chavez, who never lost his sense of family or justice, went on to become one of the most powerful forces in the union and civil rights movements. An outstanding and well written book for anyone interested in American History, social movements, unions, Hispanic culture, poverty, and simply wants to read the story of what it means to fight for social justice. This should be required reading.
If you only ever read one book about Cesar Chavez and La Causa, this one is it. Amazing, very relatable and heart breaking.

Very good price and arrived promptly - Thanks for helping a single mom!!!
This book was recommended to me by a man who knew and worked with Cesar for many years. I really like that most of the book is taken from recorded conversations from Cesar and his family and friends, mentors and others who knew and worked with him. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in Cesar and the movement to better conditions for farm workers in the US.
This book is an amazing read! It talks about Cesar's life and about La Causa's story. I read this for school but recommend it for all.
Great book and a very important person in U.S. history.
This remains the best, most immediate account of a time when everything changed for farmworkers. A movement that remains all too relevant today. Inspiring.
